Advances in Archaeobotany aims to foster connections in a field of research with highly diversified publication strategies and to increase archaeobotanists’ international visibility.

As a  series specializing in the field of archaeobotany, Advances in Archaeobotany offers a centralized, easily recognizable publication venue for the growing research output of the world’s archaeobotanical community. Advances in Archaeobotany aims to foster connections in a field of research with highly diversified publication strategies and to increase archaeobotanists’ international visibility.

Peer Review Process

All submissions will be assessed by the editorial board.

In case of multi-authored volumes, the assessment of the quality and originality of the work will be based on peer-review coordinated by guest editors, and in case of PhD theses, on external, university-based evaluation of PhD theses.

Every paper in a joint volume is a matter of review by 2 persons, at least one out of which is provided by an external reviewer; one reviewer can be member of the editorial board.

Submissions will be either accepted or rejected. Individual members of the editorial board may veto a submission because it does not meet expected scholarly standards.

Submissions will be accepted or rejected within two months after submission.

Author Guidelines

If you would like to publish in Advances in Archaeobotany, please send an email with a summary and preliminary table of contents, and accompanied by a proposal about expected number of pages, number of tables and figures to:

Contributions may be written in English, French, and German. In case the language of your contribution is not your own native language, you are expected to have your contribution corrected by a native speaker before submission to AIA.

Authors are encouraged to write in a clear and non-technical style, in order to make their specialized research available to scholars in a variety of disciplines.

Each submission must be accompanied by an abstract of c. 100 words summarizing the topic, sources, methods and conclusion. The abstract will be used for indexes, reference works, flyers and electronic publication.

Authors considering publication in AIA may contact the publisher at any moment to discuss publication costs. These costs can be kept at a minimum if the authors take care of the layout of the manuscript.

• Editors are accountable and should take responsibility for everything they publish

Authors are expected to adhere to the international standards for authors as published by COPE. Summarized, these standards are:

• The research being reported should have been conducted in an ethical and responsible manner and should comply with all relevant legislation.
• Researchers should present their results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation.
• Researchers should strive to describe their methods clearly and unambiguously so that their findings can be confirmed by others.
• Researchers should adhere to publication requirements that submitted work is original, is not plagiarised, and has not been published elsewhere.
• Authors should take collective responsibility for submitted and published work.
• The authorship of research publications should accurately reflect individuals’ contributions to the work and its reporting.
• Funding sources and relevant conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
